How do I get a software update for my PS3 80 gig to play PS2 games?I just bought a PS3 80 gig the newer one. As I was told you can get a software update that will let me play my PS2 games on my PS3. If this is true can someone tell me how to get this software update so I can play my PS2 games on my PS3 system, I'd appeated it. Thank you

If it's a new one and has 2 USB port's then it can't play PS2 games, apart form the software update it still need's the PS2 graphic's chip, which the new 80GB doesn't have.
If you've got 4USB port's its the old 80GB, so the PS2 software update should appear on the PS Store.

There is rumored to be a future software update that will allow you to emulate playing PS2 games/or bringing PS2 games to download from the PSN Store but that is a rumor.
Currently there is no way to download an update that will enable PS3 models with 2USB slots to play PS2 games. It is a hardware and technical issue that has not allowed the current PS3's to play PS2 games.

you dont need any update to play ps2 games on a ps3. its the same way with the ps2. you can play ps1 games on the ps2, no problemo. you just can't backtrack and play a ps2 game on the ps1. same for the ps3.
ps2 game on ps3= yes
ps3 game on ps2= no

It might be a way in the future by software, but as of now you can't because for 1 its a certain hardware chip in the older version thats not in the 40, 80 core or 160 GB. So there is no way you can do this unless you have a OS installed and can get PS/PS2 ISO to work on there. But as of now there is NO way to play PS2 games on YOUR PS3 system

Someone told you wrong. There is NO software update that will allow you to play PS2 games and your new PS3, and there is no download from the playstation store that will allow this either.
Sony has expressed recently that they MAY BE interested making PS2 games available for download in the PS3 store, but that is a big maybe and no plans have been revealed

I haven't heard that. As far as I know the newer model PS3 are not backwards compatible. The older models are though

there is no update, there is no update, THERE IS NO UPDATE!!!!!
the one you are talking about does NOT make a non-backwards compatible PS3 play PS2 games. it is for the PS3's that already play PS2 games. your 80GB will NEVER play PS2 games. EVER!
