If I were to play a final fantasy game, would I know what was happening?I haven't played a final Fantasy game. (I can hear you laughing...) Main reason is because there are sooooo many games in that series. If I bought a relatively new final fantasy game/the new PS3 final fantasy game. Would I know what was happening in terms of story?
(Rephrased: Is final fantasy one of those games (like metal gear) where you have to pretty much play most games in the series to know whats happening?)

no..The Final Fantasy games all have independant storys..except X and X-2....those two run together

Every Final Fantasy game is different and in no way are they related to each other. So, each Final Fantasy game has its own story, villians, summons, modes of transportation aka Chocobo =D, own protagonists, and own allies. The only thing that they keep bringing back to the Final Fantasy games are Chocobos, Mogs, Summons, and there is always a person in the game with the name biggs, wedge, and Cid. That's about it. So, if you were to play Final Fantasy 13 that is about to come out for the PS3 and Xbox 360 in April 2010 you would totally get it and in no way would you be confused. It will take a while to get used to the battle system but every Final Fantasy fan has to do this at first. Anyways i hope that one day you come over to the FF side and enjoy yourself =D
Oh, forgot to mention that there are sequals to some Final Fantasy games like Final Fantasy X and Final Fantasy X-2 those two relate to each other but thats about it.

only if you've studied it before hand, however if you haven't, you might just be surprised. You might want to bring a friend who's familiar with the series. Also, just about every series has a different plot and different characters so don't worry, you'll be fine.
