Xbox and Playstation are already stealing Nintendo's ideas. When will they finally get their own... Oh that's right, they charge extra for that as well. :P

That's actually a difficult question to answer! They both have positives and negatives. Xbox has certain massive hit games like halo that you might interest you.and a ridiculous amount of data to download from Live. Though, if you want to use the xbox to play media, forget it. It's extremely hard to get media downloaded to the xbox; the formats are too specific, takes too much time, etc. Plus the xbox can't play Blu-Ray.
The PS3 has other massive games that you can only get on the PS3; God of War 3, Uncharted Series, etc. It also has blu-ray capabilities. Though, the beauty of the ps3 is that you can plug in a usb capable external harddrive that has all of your media, plus you can store your games onto that external harddrive. The xbox supposedly just made this possible, but I haven't really tested it out.
I would also say I think that the ps3 has less downloadable content than the xbox, but remember most of it cost money from either console.
Now recently both systems came out with Xbox=Kinect and PS3=Move. The "contollerless" system, like the wii. The kinect actaully is controllerless, but the ps3 has a better free range motion than the wii with its handheld. From the looks of the last E3 convention, the ps3 will have better games for the ps3 move.
Another huge positive for the ps3 is the free live account. The xbox will be $ 60 for a a yearly live subscription.
Too be clear, I play both systems and love them both.
To make the final suggestion, if your going to use the console for family matters, for kids, or parties I would suggest the ps3.But if your looking to do solo gaming or gaming with a few friends, I would go for the xbox 360.

ps3 is actually a home cinema dream except you just need surround sound. it has everything else dvd player, blu-ray player, recorder (PlayTv), online, games, music, movies, internet, videos, tv shows (PlayTv) !! etc. EVERYTHiNG!

ps3 blu ray player 360 don't
ps3 free online 360 gonna increase the price of gold membership
ps3 don't need an adapter for wi fi 360 need one to play on a wireless router
ps3 easier menue and video watch music and pic 360 only can take wma and mp4 also can't be copy right stuff
ps3 all game are on blu rays and won't get scratch 360 burn on dvd 9
for me ps3 i own all 360 and wii i prefer my ps3
btw ps3 is easy to upgrade the memory up to 1 tb 360 only 250gb

I have both consoles and play them as equally but honestly I find the PS3 as the better console. It has built in Wifi, Free Online Gaming, Video Editing tools, Internet Browser (Which allows you to access Facebook and Twitter without a subscription), Access to Netflix without a subscription, Uses BluRay for games which is good thing to have if you tend to throw or place games anywhere since they don't scratch very easily & Custom PS3 Themes.
